Carpet cleaning in Munich
Whether a carpet may be wet-cleaned is decided by how it is built, not by the stain. Carpet cleaning at MilieuLux therefore starts by checking the fibre, the backing and the way the covering is laid. Only then is it clear which method applies and how long the area stays out of use. That takes ten minutes and prevents damage nobody can undo.
Before the first spray we identify the fibre. Wool is alkali-sensitive: cleaners above pH 8 attack the keratin, and the fibre yellows and mats. Polyamide tolerates more but absorbs the acid dyes in red wine and fruit juice much like a dye bath. Polypropylene is almost indifferent to water yet holds on to oils. If the care label is missing, we test colourfastness in a concealed spot with a white cloth.
The backing determines how much water may be used. A natural jute backing releases brown lignin marks when the solution is too generous; they travel up through the pile and are more visible once dry than the original stain was. Loose-laid carpeting on screed barely dries underneath, while glued-down carpeting tolerates no moisture reaching the adhesive. With carpet tiles, replacing individual tiles is sometimes the better option.

Method and drying time
Hot water extraction forces warm cleaning solution into the pile and draws it back in the same pass, reaching the soiling down to the backing. Surface methods using a pad or dry powder only treat the top third but are walkable again after one to two hours. Both begin with thorough vacuuming: sand sits at the base of the fibre, acts like abrasive paper and cuts into the pile. Traffic lanes dulled that way will not regain their sheen from any wet clean.
The drying time sets the appointment, not the other way round. Dense wool velours in a room without cross-ventilation takes longer than the usual six to twelve hours; areas like that we schedule for the evening or for a Friday, so the weekend dries along with them. Cut the time short and you cannot take it back: metal glides leave rust rings on damp pile, wooden feet bleed colour, and both stay.
Where the limit lies
The limit of what is achievable runs between soiling and damage. What sits on the fibre comes off; what has dyed or bleached the fibre itself stays. That includes bleach spots from chlorine cleaners or acne medication, protein stains set by heat, and pet urine that has soaked into the backing. Hand-knotted pieces with natural dyes, silk and viscose we do not put through a wet process but refer to a carpet washing works with an immersion bath.

Billing is per person on site and per hour worked. Two people working three hours makes six working hours.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the room out of use after cleaning?
After hot water extraction, expect six to twelve hours. Cross-ventilation shortens that noticeably, and so does a fan. Furniture goes back only once the backing is dry too – otherwise metal and wooden feet leave their mark.
Will the red wine stain come out?
On polypropylene usually yes, on polyamide often only partly. Red wine contains acid dyes that bond to this fibre much like a textile dye – especially when the stain is old or has been treated with hot water. We say in advance what result is realistic.
What details do you need for a quote?
Square metres, the fibre type from the label or invoice, how the carpet is laid, pile height, when it was last cleaned and which stains are present. Also whether furniture can be moved out and how the room can be aired. If something is missing, we quote a range rather than a figure.
What does cleaning a fitted carpet cost?
We invoice the hours actually worked at €25 per person and hour, plus €18 per working day and job – not per person. How many hours are needed depends on area, method and furnishing: an emptied room is done faster than an office floor where every desk has to be shifted.
Can you clean my oriental rug?
On site, dry only or not at all. Hand-knotted pieces with plant-dyed wool belong in an immersion bath with controlled drying; cleaned on the floor, the colours bleed into one another and the fringes yellow. We will point you to a suitable carpet washing works instead.
