Surfaces and products

Sensitive surfaces belong in the first conversation. Natural stone does not tolerate acidic cleaners, oiled floorboards do not tolerate wet mopping, coated fittings do not tolerate abrasives. If we know what is in your home, we choose the right product and method. If we do not know, we would rather ask before treating a surface.

With products you provide, one limit applies, and we would rather state it in advance than on the day: if a product is clearly unsuitable for the surface in question – an acidic cleaner on natural stone, an abrasive on coated timber – we say so before it is used and carry on with our own. The decision stays yours; the etch mark would not.

Bathroom, kitchen, living area

The bathroom and the kitchen are the two rooms that decide the result. In the bathroom, most of the time goes on limescale: fittings, shower screens and grout need time for the product to work, and that cannot be cut short without leaving residue behind. In the kitchen it is grease and the unit fronts above the hob. Both are far quicker to deal with when visits are regular than after a long gap – the effort does not grow steadily but in steps, as soon as something has hardened on.

The living area, by contrast, usually goes quicker than people expect – provided the surfaces are clear. We do not put things away and we do not rearrange anything: whatever is on the table stays on the table, and we wipe around it. If you want surfaces cleaned in full, it helps to clear them beforehand. That sounds trivial, but it makes a noticeable difference to the time needed at every visit.

Laundry, beds and ironing

Laundry, beds and ironing are extras, not something to be taken for granted. We are happy to change beds and fold laundry where that has been agreed – we then plan the time for it. What we do not take on is care or nursing services. That is not a matter of goodwill but of qualification and insurance.

Billing by the hour

We charge for the working hours actually spent, not a flat rate per home. That is more honest for both sides: you do not pay for time that was not needed, and we do not have to cut back on the result when a visit runs longer. If your needs change for the longer term, we bring it up and adjust the plan.

The first visit and after

For the first visit we deliberately allow more time than for those that follow. A home that has gone without a thorough clean for a while needs one more intensive pass before a regular rhythm can take hold. After that the effort drops noticeably, because nothing gets the chance to build up. If you are unsure whether a deep clean should come first, we will tell you honestly after the first site visit – even if that means the start costs more than you expected.

A word on frequency: weekly, fortnightly and monthly are not equivalent versions of the same job. With weekly visits, half the time is usually enough, because hardly anything has built up in between. At monthly intervals the balance tips, and individual areas need groundwork again every time. Stretching the gap therefore saves less than the sums suggest.
