Upholstery cleaning in Munich
A sofa or a mattress cannot be cleaned by eye. Before any upholstery cleaning in Munich we check the care label, the cover material and colourfastness in a concealed spot. Only then is it clear whether we extract with moisture, work dry or simply vacuum. If doubt remains, we say so – even if that means no job.
The care label is usually on the underside of the seat cushion or inside the zip seam of the cover. Four letters decide the method: W allows water-based cleaning, S solvent-based only, WS both, X vacuuming alone. If the label is missing because the cover was replaced or the furniture was bought second-hand, we work our way forward with a material sample and a test patch. Without a reliable result, vacuuming is where it ends.
The colourfastness test takes a few minutes and prevents the most expensive mistake. We dampen a concealed spot – the back panel, the underside of a cushion, the plinth area – with the intended product and press a white cotton cloth onto it. If colour shows on the cloth, wet cleaning is over before it began. This happens often with darkly dyed linen and with multi-coloured woven patterns whose threads behave differently.

What matters here
Fibres and leather
Natural fibres are the demanding group. Cotton and linen shrink with too much moisture and leave rings; viscose loses much of its strength when wet and turns dull. Polyester microfibre is more forgiving, absorbs little water and dries faster – though after extraction the pile has to be brushed in one direction, otherwise the surface stays cloudy.
We only treat leather where it is suitable. Pigmented smooth leather has a closed top coat, tolerates gentle cleaning and is re-oiled afterwards. Aniline and semi-aniline leathers absorb liquid through open pores and record every drop as a dark ring; nubuck and suede behave the same way. A single drop of water in a concealed spot shows which type you have. If it soaks in, we leave it alone.
Mattresses and time needed
Mattresses deliberately get very little moisture. A core of cold foam or latex releases water only slowly, and residual damp inside is the start of a mould problem. So we vacuum thoroughly, treat stains locally and extract the surface only. If the cover unzips and is washable at sixty degrees, the washing machine is the better answer – and we say so, even when it shrinks our job.
Time is driven less by seat area than by the number of separate cushions, fixed backrests and seams. On top of that come stains already treated with household remedies: sugar and soap residues set the ring and create more work than the original spill. Billing is per person on site and per hour worked. Two people working three hours makes six working hours.

Frequently asked questions
Should I look for the care label before enquiring?
It helps. A photo of the label under the cushion or in the zip seam often settles in advance whether wet work is permitted. If it is missing, a material sample and a test patch decide on site.
What happens if the cover cannot take the cleaning?
Then vacuuming is where we stop. We show you the test result, explain the finding and charge only the time actually spent. A water ring or a shrunken cover cannot be undone; a cancelled step can.
How long does a sofa need to dry afterwards?
Four to twelve hours, depending on cushion thickness, room temperature and ventilation. Mattresses take longer and should dry standing upright. We therefore book the appointment in the morning where possible, so the room can air through during the day.
Will an old stain definitely come out?
We do not promise that. Grease and coffee usually dissolve well; red wine and urine have often already penetrated the fibre or the core. With urine the smell returns as soon as the spot gets damp again – surface treatment is then not enough.

With upholstery cleaners from the professional range, for example by Dr. Schnell, chosen to match the cover we tested. We invoice by hours worked: €25 per person and hour, plus €18 per working day and job. No VAT is charged, in accordance with § 19 of the German VAT Act.
